At Guided Recovery, we believe that the principles for building a thriving business are surprisingly similar to those for building a thriving recovery. Just as a strong company needs a clear strategy, your personal journey needs a framework to ensure sustained growth.

That's why we're introducing the 5 M's Recovery Framework—a powerful toolkit to help you navigate your path with intention and clarity.

1. Mindset: Calibrating Your Inner Compass

  • In Business: It's the entrepreneur's belief in their mission.

  • In Recovery: It's your foundational belief that recovery is possible for you. It's about shifting from self-doubt to self-compassion, recognizing your inherent worth, and understanding that addiction is about pain, not moral failure.

    • Action: Daily affirmations, mindfulness, self-compassion practices, and challenging negative self-talk.

2. Message: Defining Your New Story

  • In Business: It's your brand's unique voice and value proposition.

  • In Recovery: It's the new narrative you craft for yourself. What is the story of your healed self? How do you want to show up in the world? This isn't about denial; it's about actively rewriting the script that addiction tried to impose on you.

    • Action: Journaling your new values, practicing a new way to introduce yourself, or outlining your personal mission statement as well as tracking daily healthful habits.

3. Movement: Taking Intentional Steps

  • In Business: It's the daily tasks, the outreach, the product development.

  • In Recovery: It's the consistent, manageable actions that build momentum. These are your "Micro-Goals"—the daily practices that affirm your commitment to your True North, whether it's attending a meeting, practicing gratitude, or just making your bed.

    • Action: Identifying and committing to one small, achievable action today that aligns with your recovery goals. Then, building up to 10 daily habits you perform every day that you don't even have to think about - you just do. These habits bring an ease to your daily life and start to replace the habits of using a substance or behavior to numb from your psychological pain.

    • 10 Daily Habits that will change your day: 8 hours of sleep, good oral and skin care, time in nature, physical exercise, spirituality and meditation, opening the daily mail and addressing anything that needs action in the mail pile, connecting with friends and family, meaningful work, learning/reading, limiting time on social media and/or with television.

    • Your 10 daily habits are about YOU and what truly brings joy, meaning and ease to your everyday life.

4. Metrics: Tracking Your Progress

  • In Business: It's tracking sales, engagement, and growth.

  • In Recovery: It's about recognizing and celebrating your wins, no matter how small. How do you measure success in your recovery? It could be improved sleep, deeper connections, or moments of genuine joy, meaningful work, learning something new, changing your environment, time in nature, time exercising, improved self-care routines, developing a morning routine that jumpstarts your day.

    • Action: Keeping a recovery journal, tracking mood, noting new connections, or simply acknowledging moments where you chose growth over old habits.

5. Mastery: Continuous Growth and Learning

  • In Business: It's staying ahead of industry trends and refining your skills.

  • In Recovery: It's the ongoing commitment to understanding yourself, your triggers, and new tools for healing. This includes learning about integrated treatments, exploring new therapeutic modalities, or simply deepening your self-awareness. It's about building a life you don't need or want to escape from!

    • Action: Reading recovery literature, attending workshops, engaging with new research (like GLP-1s or Integral Recovery), and consistently seeking self-improvement.
